  • Can’t SSH into ASA? « Axelilly’s Ponderings – Something strange happened today when I went to SSH into my ASA cluster.

    Upon running ssh I got this error message:

    ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

  • Ubuntu Linux Resources – It's a collection of tutorials designed to help new Ubuntu users, in particular those coming from a Windows-using background.
  • PsPasswd – Systems administrators that manage local administrative accounts on multiple computers regularly need to change the account password as part of standard security practices. PsPasswd is a tool that lets you change an account password on the local or remote systems, enabling administrators to create batch files that run PsPasswd against the computers they manage in order to perform a mass change of the administrator password.

    PsPasswd uses Windows password reset APIs, so does not send passwords over the network in the clear.

  • MobaXterm-Plugins – bananahut.net – This page contains a few third-party MobaXterm plugins that I packaged myself. MobaXterm is an enhanced terminal for Windows build on top of cygwin. It is self-contained and doesn't require installing or managing a ton of dependencies and things like Cygwin.
  • Mirrorvg without locking the volume group – AIX Health Check – When you run the mirrorvg command, you will (by default) lock the volume group it is run against. This way, you have no way of knowing what the status is of the sync process that occurs after mirrorvg has run the mklvcopy commands for all the logical volumes in the volume group. Especially with very large volume groups, this can be a problem.

    The solution however is easy: Make sure to run the mirrorvg command with the -s option, to prevent it to run the sync. Then, when mirrorvg has completed, run the syncvg yourself with the -P option.

  • Cisco Router Command Reference – Here is my own notes I have had as a word doc for several years. It's a basic reference for Cisco router commands.
  • Cisco Switch Command Reference – Several years ago I created my own Cisco switch and router basic config command references as word docs. However I find my info more useful on the Internet to find, and for anyone else to make use of.
    Here is the switch related reference doc I created.
  • wpcomfs – A WordPress.com Filesystem | Joseph Scott – Back in April WordPress.com announced a new REST style API. That got me thinking about writing a filesystem layer to expose that data, along similar lines to the pressfs code I’d written last year.

    It is still rough, and only supports read-only public data, but in the spirit of release early (and often) I’m sharing the code for wpcomfs at https://github.com/josephscott/wpcomfs.

  • WYAE – Retired Firewall Tools – These tools were used to produce documentation from firewall configuration files. Sometimes necessity is no longer given (e.g. ReadConfig), sometimes I just moved on and have no more need to use the software myself.

    The current firewall documentation system FWdoc is producing a vendor-indpendent intermediate file which then can be filtered and converted into numerous other formats. Please use FWdoc instead of these tools.

  • Debian Clusters – This site is a series of step-by-step tutorials for anyone interested in building a Debian cluster. It is geared particularly towards those interested in a Debian cluster for education or research purposes. This site is being written alongside the construction of a real Debian cluster at my institute, starting from the ground (basic networking, DHCP, DNS, authentication) up through installation a queue/scheduler and scientific software.

    However, these tutorials and guides take some assumptions about users for granted, including basic Linux and Debian knowledge (see the Basic Linux Skills page for clarification and pointers to resources). This is not meant as an introduction to Debian or on how to cluster in general – thankfully, there are plenty of helpful tutorials and guides already in existence on those topics. A basic understanding of Debian and cluster technology will aid in following the tutorials.

    L2TP/IPSec PSK VPN so it would be compatible with all of my Android devices
    Punch a hole throuh you firewall.  I have an iptables firewall and use fwbuilder to edit the firewall rules.
  • Android L2TP/IPSec VPN mini-howto — BrainBlog – I would have preferred that my Android 1.6 device supported OpenVPN out of the box. Unfortunately, this is only available for rooted devices and a bit of suffering. Instead, I went for configuring IPsec inside L2TP VPN server. All of it stuffed into an old and low-end Soekris net4511 board running Voyage Linux.
  • How to set up a VPN server for Android Clients | Android Apps by Doenter Limited – Have problems with connecting your Android device to a VPN server? In this how-to, we intend to cover server configuration that are known to work with Android clients.

    You probably also need to configure firewalls and routing in order for the server to work as you intend. That is not covered here.

    This page is far from complete, and when time permits new configurations will be added.
